Roots Up is an evidence-based video library hosting 5-minute videos that soothe the nervous system and calm body and mind. Julie uses deep breathing, mindfulness, yoga, and guided imagery to give children an opportunity to choose what tool works best for their unique bodies and minds. This library is based on 15 years of experience working with a wide variety of students, who have taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to navigating emotions, especially big ones!

Roots Up helps children and the adults caring for them take a mindful pause so everyone can nurture body and mind, together. Simple and effective stress-reduction techniques you can do anywhere, at any time.

Hello! Over the past 15 years I have taught yoga and mindfulness in private and public education, alongside youth with multiple obstacles to success, and to children with special needs. I’ve consistently seen how yoga and mindfulness provide tools to help youth and those caring for them soothe their bodies and minds.

After founding Radiant Beginnings, Roots Up sister brand in 2010, I was determined to make deep breathing, mindfulness and guided imagery more accessible and equip all children with tools to navigate life’s twists and turns. I was witnessing major burnout in adults in caregiving roles and little bodies with not enough tools to support their feelings. This is how Roots Up was born.

My drive to bring coping skills to youth stems from my healing journey with anxiety and depression, specifically panic attacks. I’m deeply committed to helping folks develop lifelong tools for big emotions and to increase resilience as part of a preventative approach to wellness.

I’m a highly sensitive person and have a playful goofy personality. I LOVE being active in nature. I’m a mom, wife, sister, ally, friend and enjoy anything outdoors, dancing, hiking, biking and running.

“My students love it and so do I. During this pandemic, the one thing I can always depend on are the videos to get us calm and ready for the day and my students feel the same. I hear it from their parents too!”

“As a parent I use the strategies from the video all the time! I was at a doctor’s appointment and I used the breathing techniques with my child- I look forward to taking deep breaths and to have a moment to slow down together.”

“Miss Julie is a movie star in my classroom! Her positive messages give the students and myself quick ways to make sure we are thoughtful about our relationships. Her movements and visualizations help ground students and teachers alike to be in a good place for learning. They can apply these skills in all areas of life.”
